「幽幻」

　開花途中のコスモスの蕾を横から撮影。色温度はAuto設定です。花の色（濃いピンク）に引きずられて色温度が下がった瞬間にシャッターを切りました。色トビするとRAWでも色調が飛んでしまうため、測光モードはハイライト重点にして、色トビを抑えるようにしています。薄雲から柔らかい日差しがそそぐ天気でしたが、花びらの反射率が高いらしく背景が暗く落ちて深遠な雰囲気を演出してくれました。

    A cosmos bud in the middle of flowering, photographed from the side. The color temperature was set to Auto. I released the shutter just as the color temperature dropped, dragged down by the color of the flower (deep pink). I set the metering mode to highlight intensive in order to suppress color saturation, because color saturation would cause color tone loss even in RAW. The sun was shining softly through the thin clouds, but the petals seemed to be highly reflective, and the background fell dark, creating a profound atmosphere.

「コスモスー小宇宙」

　庭のコスモスが咲き始めました。まずは、定番？の撮り方から。澄んだ桃色を出すために露出はプラスに補正しました。コスモスは細い茎の先に大ぶりの花が咲くので風にめっぽう弱く、僅かな風でも揺れてファインダーの外へ出てしまいます。被写体ブレを起こさないようにシャッタースピードは1/1000秒を選択。ピントはこれも定番の蕊に合わせました。ピントは合わせるというより、マニュアルフォーカスにしてフォーカスエリアに蕊が入って来たときに連写する、という感覚に近いです。

    　The cosmos in my garden has started to bloom.　First, let's start with a classic shot.  I adjusted the exposure to positive to bring out the clear peach color. Cosmos are very susceptible to wind because the large flowers bloom at the end of thin stems, and even the slightest breeze can cause them to sway and go out of the viewfinder. So, the shutter speed of 1/1000 second was chosen to avoid blurring the subject. I focused on the stamen, which is also a standard focus point. Rather than focusing on the stamen, I used manual focus and took a series of pictures when the stamen came into the focus area.

「さぁ、おとぎの世界へ」

- Let's go to the fairy tale world! -

　ひまわりの葉っぱの上にショウリョウバッタのつがいがいたので、これを主題にまとめてみました。こういう生き物を撮るときは近づかなくても最高倍率が得られる180mmマクロが有利です。逆光側から撮っているのでバッタが影にならないように露出はプラスに補正しています。ひまわりの葉を前暈けに入れておとぎの国らしい雰囲気を演出してみました。これから未知なる世界へ踏み出そうする動きを意識して、主題のバッタは黄金螺旋の始点付近に配置しました。

    I found a mating pair of grasshoppers on a sunflower leaf, so I focused on them. When photographing such creatures, the 180mm macro lens is advantageous because it provides the highest magnification without getting too close. Since I was shooting from the backlit side, the exposure was positively compensated so that the grasshoppers would not be in shadow. I added sunflower leaves to the foreground to produce a fairy-tale atmosphere. I placed the grasshopper, the subject of the picture, near the beginning of the golden spiral to show the movement of the grasshopper about to step out into the unknown world.

「探索」

　コロナ禍にあってマクロレンズが売れている、という噂を聞いたことがあります。噂なので真意のほどはわかりませんが、マクロ撮影は撮影場所を選ばないので、巣ごもりを強いられている今の時代に合っていると思います。遠くへでかけなくても、庭先や近くの公園、植え込み等被写体はいくらでもあります。この１－２年で新たにマクロレンズを手にされた方も多いのでは？そんな方に参考になるかどうか、今日から撮影データを載せることにしました。

　これも庭にある観葉植物を撮ったものです。この観葉植物、そこそこ葉っぱが横に広がっているので90mmマクロでは近づけない（最大撮影倍率を得られない）場合が多いので、180mmマクロを使っています。当然、中間リング(Extention Tube)付き。撮影倍率を更に上げることができます。画の中で明るい部分だけ日が差し込んでいます。コントラスト差が大きいので白トビしないように露出補正(AE)は－２まで落としました。そうするとシャドウ部が暗くなりすぎますが、RAW現像時に必要なところだけ持ち上げてやります。色温度(Color temperature)はカメラ設定はAutoですが、RAW現像時に全体の感じをみて調整しました（やや青味を強調）。

    I have heard a rumor that macro lenses are selling well because of the Corona disaster. I don't know the truth of the rumor, but I think macro photography is suitable for today's age when we are forced to stay indoors because it can be taken anywhere. You don't have to go far, there are plenty of places to take pictures, such as your yard, a nearby park, or a planting. Many of you may have acquired a new macro lens in the past year or two. I've decided to start posting my photographic data from today to see if it will be of any help to you.

    This is another shot of a houseplant in my garden. The leaves of this plant spread out horizontally, so it is often difficult to get close to it with a 90mm macro (maximum magnification is not possible), so I used a 180mm macro. Naturally, it comes with an intermediate ring (Extention Tube). This allows you to increase the magnification even further. Only the bright part of the picture is lit by the sun. Since there is a large difference in contrast, I reduced the exposure compensation (AE) to -2 to prevent the image from being blown out. This would have made the shadows too dark, but when developing the RAW file, I lifted the shadows only where necessary. The color temperature was set to Auto in the camera settings, but I adjusted it during the RAW development process based on the overall feel of the image (slightly emphasizing the blue tint).

「雨上がり」

- after the rain -

　雨の日に題材に困ってしまうのは発想の貧困さのなせる技でしょうか？ 今日は一日雨でしたが、少しの雨間に90mmマクロを持ち出しました。光が少ないのでエクステンションチューブはなしです。遅咲きのヒマワリの花びらに水玉が乗っかっていたのでそれを主題に画をまとめてみました。水玉にヒマワリが写り込んでいたので、ピントはその写り込みに合わせています。背景にアサガオの赤紫を入れてアクセントとしました。

    Is it the result of poor imagination that I have trouble finding subjects on rainy days? It was raining all day today, but I took out my 90mm macro during the little rain. No extension tube because of the low light. There were polka dots on the petals of a late blooming sunflower, so I tried to put together a picture with that as the subject. The sunflower was reflected in the polka dots, so the focus was on the reflection of the polka dots. I added the reddish purple of the morning glory in the background as an accent.

「花」

- A flower -

　180mmは被写体から47cm離れても最大撮影倍率を得られるメリットがあります。ガーベラの花の前に同じ別の個体を重ねて前暈けとし、後ろにある花にピントをあわせて見ました。ふんわかとした雰囲気を強調するために露出はプラスに補正してハイキー調にしました。別の花に見えますね^^

    　The 180mm lens has the advantage of providing maximum magnification even at a distance of 47cm from the subject. I placed a Gerbera flower in front of another Gerbera flower to create foreground vertigo and focused on the flower behind it. In order to emphasize the fluffy atmosphere, the exposure was positively adjusted to create a high-key effect. It looks like a different flower ^^.

Add haze in RAW development. The saturation is reduced by the haze, so add it back.

「カオス」

- chaos -

　180mmマクロにエクステンションチューブの組み合わせ。いつもの観葉植物を逆光側から撮ったものです。肉眼でははっきり見えない小さなものがマクロ撮影の被写体なので、しばしばファインダーを覗きながら被写体を探します。デジタル一眼時代は、一度シャッターを切ってからカメラ背面のモニターに表示させ、モニターで露出とかフレーミングを確認しながらイメージをふくらませて作品を創ってました。一度ファインダーから目を離すことになるので、被写体を見失っていしまうことも。また、モニターを確認している間に光の加減が変わってしまうこともありました。ミラーレスカメラは露出もエミュレートしてくれるので、ファインダーから目を離すことなく、画創りに専念できるのでとても効率がいいです。露出補正やISO感度の調整はブラインドタッチで行う必要がありますが、ちょっと練習すればできるようになります。

    A combination of a 180mm macro and an extension tube. This is a shot of my usual houseplant from the backlit side. Small objects that are not clearly visible to the naked eye are the subjects of macro photography, so I often look through the viewfinder to find them. In the days of digital SLR cameras, I would release the shutter once and then display the image on the monitor on the back of the camera, checking the exposure and framing on the monitor as I created the image. Since I had to take my eyes off the viewfinder, I would sometimes lose sight of the subject. There were also times when the light would change while I was checking the monitor. Mirrorless cameras are very efficient because they emulate exposure, so you can focus on creating a picture without taking your eyes off the viewfinder. Adjusting exposure compensation and ISO sensitivity requires some blind touches, but with a little practice, you will be able to do it.
