「宇宙旅行」

    今日は久々に180mmマクロを持ち出して、ひまわりの葉の間に漂っていた蜘蛛の糸を狙ってみました。180mmレンズの最短撮影距離での撮影倍率は90mmと同じです。被写体から離れても90mmほど視野が広がらず大きな暈けを楽しむことができるため、虫や鳥など近づくと逃げてしまう被写体や、物理的に近づけない被写体を捉えるのに向いています。もちろん、近づいての最大倍率での撮影もできますが、重いのが難点です（90mmの倍くらいある）。

    Today, I took out my 180mm macro lens for the first time in a while and tried to capture a spider thread floating among the sunflower leaves. 180mm lens has the same magnification as 90mm at the minimum focus distance. The 180mm lens has the same magnification at the minimum focus distance as the 90mm lens, but the field of view is not as wide as with the 90mm lens, allowing you to enjoy a large amount of vertigo when you move away from your subject. Of course, it is also possible to get close and shoot at maximum magnification, but the drawback is that it is heavy (about twice as heavy as the 90mm).

　アサガオの優美な曲線を表現してみたくて挑戦してみました。曲線の膨らみ部分を暈かして地平が光っているような雰囲気を出してみました。

    I wanted to express the graceful curves of the morning glory, so I tried my hand at it. I made the bulge of the curve dizzy to create an atmosphere as if the horizon were shining.

「漂う」

    今日は雲ひとつない晴天になりました。こういう強い日差しがあるときはコントラスト差を利用して色々遊べます。庭に植えてある観葉植物には木漏れ日があたり、日差しがあるところとないところなどをフレーミングして幻想的なイメージを創ってみました。

    It was a cloudless, sunny day today. When there is strong sunlight like today, we can play around with the contrast difference. The sun shone through the trees on the plants in the garden, and I tried to create a fantastic image by framing the areas with and without sunlight.

「緑の翼」

　芙蓉の桃色の花をバックに、芙蓉の葉を逆光から撮りました。葉の緑の鮮やかさを出すために露出はプラスに補正、動きを出すために斜めの配置としました。ちょうどいいところに葉の棘の円暈けができました。

    I took this photo of a hibiscus leaf backlit against a background of peach-colored hibiscus flowers. I compensated for the positive exposure to bring out the vividness of the green of the leaves, and placed them at an angle to bring out the movement. I was able to get the circular vertigo of the leaf spines in just the right place.

「ブルース」

  強い日差しが作る大きなコントラストを利用し、アサガオの花の優雅な曲線を活かして一枚まとめてみました。露出はマイナスに補正し、日が当たっているところを暈すことで発光しているように撮ることができます。背景は明るいところを避けると暗く落ちてくれます。

    I took advantage of the large contrast created by the strong sunlight to create a single image with the graceful curves of the morning glory flower. I compensated for the negative exposure and dimmed the sunlit area to make the photo look luminous. The background will fall darker if you avoid bright areas.

「火垂」

　暑い夏が戻ってきました。久々に朝から強い日差しが差し込みました。ヒマワリの葉は毛深いので逆光から撮ると暈けが発光しているように写ります。それを利用して撮った一枚です。

    The hot summer has returned. It's been a while since we've had strong sunshine in the morning. The leaves of the sunflower are very hairy, so when I took this picture from backlight, it looked like the sun was emitting light. I took advantage of this to take this picture.

「炎夏」

 　今日はお昼過ぎから晴れるとの予報だったので、日差しが出てくるのを待ってヒマワリを撮りました。偏見かもしれませんが、ヒマワリの花には強い夏の日差しが似合うように思います。青と黄色の強烈なコントラストを活かして、夏の強い日差しを表現してみました。

　It was forecast to be sunny after noon today, so I waited for the sun to come out and took some pictures of sunflowers. I may be biased, but I think the strong summer sunlight suits sunflowers. I took advantage of the strong contrast of blue and yellow to express the strong summer sunlight.

「優しく」

　今日も強い日差しはなく、やや厚めの雲を通して太陽が丸く見えるような天気でした。アサガオの葉は薄いので光がよく透け、緑が輝いて綺麗です。やや強めの光が来ていたので、アサガオの葉の緑を活かすために逆光側にまわり、露出をプラスに補正して撮りました。アサガオの花と葉の位置に気をつけながらフレーミングを決めています。

    There was again no strong sunshine today, and the sun seemed to be round through the rather thick clouds. The leaves of the morning glory are thin, so the light penetrates well, and the green shines beautifully. The light was a little stronger than yesterday, so I went around to the backlit side to take advantage of the green of the morning glory leaves, and corrected the exposure to the positive side. I framed the shot, paying attention to the position of the morning glory flowers and leaves.

「安らぎ」

 　なかなか日差しが戻ってこないので、苦手なハイキーに挑戦してみました。日陰に咲いているコントラストの弱い花を選び、順光側から露出をプラスに補正して撮影。ピントは花びらの一番手前に合わせ、花全体が暈けるようにしています。RAW現像時にかすみをさらに加えてよりハイキーに仕上げました。

     　Since the sunlight was not coming back easily, I tried my weakest point, high key. I chose a flower with low contrast that was blooming in the shade, and took the photo with positive exposure compensation from the forward-lighting side. During the RAW development process, I added more haze to make the image more high-key.

「フェスティバル」

　４月に蒔いた向日葵が漸く咲きました。７月の開花を期待して４月に蒔いたのですが外れました。単純に種を蒔いてから何ヶ月後に咲くというものでもないらしいです。

　向日葵の花の中央は種がぎっしり詰まっていますが、まだ、成熟前で少し青みを帯びた色をしています。そこに黄色の花粉がついてコントラストが綺麗でした。その花粉を円暈けに使って夜空に浮かぶバルーンに見立て、お祭りの雰囲気を演出してみました。

    The sunflower that I sowed in April finally bloomed, expecting to bloom in July, but it was not the case. It seems that it is not possible to simply sow the seeds and expect them to bloom some months later.

　The center of the sunflower is packed with seeds, but they are not mature yet and have a slightly bluish color. The contrast of the yellow pollen on the seeds was beautiful. I used the pollen as a circular vertigo to make it look like a balloon floating in the night sky, creating a festive atmosphere.

　今日は十何日ぶりかに薄雲の向こうから日が差す天候での撮影となりました。その日差しを受けてムラサキツユクサについた雫が輝いていたので、それをアクセントに一枚まとめてみました。

    　Today, for the first time in more than ten days, the sun came out from behind the light clouds. The sunshine made the drops on the purple clover shine, so I used it as an accent in this shot.

　ユリの花もそろそろお終いです。花びらの先に名残りの水滴、そこに背景のユリの花が写り込んでいました。

「Mehr Licht!(もっと光を)」

- More light -

　「もっと光を」とはかのゲーテの最期の言葉として有名ですが、まさに、この１０日間ほどの天候はそう言わせます。被写体が限られてくると、自分の発想の貧困さを思い知らされることになります。雨を避けながらいつもの観葉植物ユッカについた水玉を覗きながらまとめた一枚。露出はマイナスに補正、他の水玉の光を円暈けとし背景の緑をアクセントに入れてみました。色温度は少し下げています。

    "Mehr light (More light)" are the famous last words of Goethe, and the weather for the past ten days has made me say so. When I am limited in the number of subjects I can take, I am reminded of the poverty of my ideas. This is a shot I assembled while avoiding the rain and looking at the polka dots on my usual houseplant, Yucca. I compensated for the negative exposure, and used the light from the other polka dots as circular vertigo to accent the green of the background. The color temperature was lowered slightly.

「星に願いを」

　今日も雨スタートとなりました。時折スコールのように激しく降り、止み間には薄っすらと日差しが差し込む天気。アサガオにはやや大柄の水玉が付いています。水玉や水滴は、写り込みが綺麗な時はその写り込んでいるものにピントをあわせます。写り込みがないときはその表面にピントを合わせると綺麗に見えます。たくさんある時はどの水玉にピントを合わせるか迷いますが、薄っすらと差した日差しでキャッチアイが入ったものを選んでみました。

　

    　It started raining again today. It rained heavily at times, like a squall, and when it stopped, the sun shone lightly. The morning glory has rather large polka dots on it. When there is a clear image of the polka dots or water droplets, I focus on the object in the image. If there is no reflection, focus on the surface. When there are a lot of polka dots, it's hard to decide which one to focus on, but I chose the one with the catch-eye in the faint sunlight.

　夏が過ぎたら梅雨みたいな季節がやってきました。日差しが恋しいこの頃です。ユリの花びらの曲線を活かしたくて試行錯誤。時折雨がぱらつくような天候、優しい光の扱いは苦手です。

    The summer has passed and the rainy season has arrived. I miss the sunshine these days. I've been trying to make the most of the curves of the lily petals. I'm not good at handling the gentle light in the weather, which is sometimes rainy.

「花の上の世界」

　今日は時折霧雨のように細かな雨が降る天気。こういう時は花びら等に細かな水滴が付きます。それを狙って一枚まとめてみました。

　マクロの撮影は、ある程度肉眼であたりをつけておいて、最後はファインダーを覗きながら被写体を探すことになります。結構、ファインダーを覗いた最初の印象が決め手になることが多く、その印象を大切にしながらアングルやピント位置、フレーミング、場合によっては露出を調整していきます。露出を変えるとまた違った世界が見えてくるので一からイメージ造りをやり直すこともあります。ミラーレスはEVに撮影イメージをエミュレートしてくれるのでイメージ造りにはとても助かります。

 

   　The weather today is drizzly with occasional light showers. In this kind of weather, there are fine droplets of water on the petals of flowers. I tried to capture this in one shot.

　In macro photography, you have to use the naked eye to some extent, and then look through the viewfinder to find the subject. The first impression you get when you look through the viewfinder is often the deciding factor, and you have to keep that impression in mind while adjusting the angle, focus position, framing, and in some cases, the exposure. When I change the exposure, I see the world in a different way, so I sometimes have to start over from scratch. Mirrorless cameras are very helpful in this process because they can emulate the image taken in EV.

「Pride」

　ユリの花が咲きました。ここのところ降り続いている雨に濡れて高貴な気品を醸し出しています。花びらの上に溜まった雨に暗い空が写り込んで、花の白とのコントラストが綺麗だったのでそれを主題に一枚まとめてみました。この後この水滴は落ちてしまったのでラッキーでした。

    The lilies have bloomed. The lilies are wet from the rain that has been falling recently, giving them a noble elegance. The rain on the petals and the dark sky made a beautiful contrast with the white of the flower, so I tried to take a picture of it as the subject. I was lucky that the water droplets fell off after this shot.

「Symphonie」

　アサガオ、咲き始めは赤紫色が多かったのですが、最近は青色が主になってきました。ここ数日の雨が花びらに残っていて、そこにフォーカスしながらアサガオの青を活かすフレーミングを探ってみました。

    The morning glory was mostly reddish-purple at the beginning of its blooming, but recently it has become mostly blue. The rain of the past few days had left some residue on the petals, and I tried to find a way to frame the image to make the most of the blue of the morning glory while focusing on that.

　今日は朝から雨模様。予報は一日雨。軒下で雨を避けながらの撮影になりました。ムラサキツユクサ蕊の根本に生えた産毛が好きで、それを主題にまとめてみたのがこれです。もう少し雨粒が付いていると雰囲気がましたかもしれません。産毛がよく分かるように最短撮影距離にて撮影。

    　It's been raining since this morning. The forecast was for rain all day. I had to take pictures under the eaves to avoid the rain. I like the white hairs on the roots of the stamens, so I took this picture. If there were more raindrops on it, it would have been more interesting. This photo was taken at the shortest shooting distance so that the hairs can be clearly seen.

 背景の緑の光を反射して観葉植物の葉が柔らかい曲線を描き出しました。直線的な葉なのですが、暈け具合で形が変わります。

「挑戦」

　花びらの一枚が反り返って面白い形をしていたので、それを主題にまとめてみました。ピントはその花びらの手前のエッジと先端に合わせました。人は先の尖ったものに注意を奪われる傾向があり、そこが暈けているとフラストレーションを感じるようです。先端だけでは主題として弱く感じたので少し右へ回り込んでエッジにもピントが合うように調整しました。

    　One of the petals was warped and had an interesting shape, so I used that as my subject. I focused on the foreground edge and tip of the petal. We tend to pay more attention to pointed objects and feel frustrated when they are out of focus. I felt that the tip of the petal was not enough of a subject, so I turned a little to the right and adjusted the focus so that the edge was also in focus.

「初な女（ひと）」

　立秋を過ぎて夜には秋の虫が鳴き始めました。日中はまだ暑いですが、季節は確実に秋に向かっているようです。開き始めたばかりの秋薔薇があったので撮ってみました。初々しさをだすために日差しが雲に陰るのを待ってシャッターを切りました。

    　It is now past Risshu (the first day of autumn) and the autumn insects have started to chirp at night. It's still hot during the day, but the season is definitely moving toward autumn. There was an autumn rose that had just started to open, so I took this photo. I waited until the sun was shading the clouds to take this shot to bring out its freshness.

「光翼」

　台風が近づいてきている今日は朝から風が強い。マクロ撮影にとって風は大敵です。とにかく被写体がファインダーの中に収まってくれないため、フレーミングができません。フレーミングできないということはピントも合わせられない、ということで、まぁ、撮影は諦めるしかない状況です。ただ、余程の悪天候でない限り風は始終噴いているわけではありません。必ず風の止み間があるので、その瞬間を狙ってシャッターを切ります。フレーミング、ピント共に甘くなりますが、フレーミングは現像時にクロッピングして精度をあげます。風のいたずらで思いかけず面白い写真も撮れたりするので粘ってみる価値はあります。

 

    Today, as the typhoon was approaching, the wind was strong from this morning. Wind is a great enemy for macro photography. Anyway, the subject doesn't fit in the viewfinder, so you can' t frame the shot. If you can' t frame the subject, you can' t focus on it, so you have no choice but to give up. However, unless the weather is very bad, the wind is not blowing all the time. There is always a moment when the wind stops, so you can try to capture that moment and release the shutter. The framing and focus will be a little weak, but the framing will be cropped during development to improve accuracy. It's worth persevering because the wind can play tricks on you and you can get some unexpectedly interesting shots.

「光栄」

　木漏れ日が差すガーベラを逆光側、真後ろではなくやや斜めの位置から撮影。ピントは木漏れ日が当たっている花びらの一番手前に持ってきました。もう一枚奥の花びらにも木漏れ日は当たっていますが、輝きは上にあったほうが良さそうなので奥は暈しました。

　マクロレンズの被写界深度（ピントが合う奥行き）は１～２mmほど。最近のAFの性能がよくなったとはいえこれほどの精度でピンポイントにピントを合わせることはできません。さらに、カメラも被写体も動いていますからピントが合っている場所は動いています。三脚を使えばカメラの動きは止められますが、被写体が動いていますからAFで運良く狙いの場所にピントがあったとしてもシャッターを切ったときにピントが合っている保証はありません。しかも三脚は細かなカメラの移動によるフレーミングを大きく制限しますから、お薦めしません。

　では、どうするかというと、ピントはMF（マニュアルフォーカス）で、ある程度、狙いの場所にピントを合わせたら、後は、体（あるいは手）を前後させて微調整を行います。勿論、ピタっとピントが合うことはなく、ピント面は狙いの場所を前後ます。ピント面が狙いの場所を通過するタイミングで連写シャッターを切ります。連写した何枚かのうち１枚、ピントがあっていればOKです。ミラーレスだと撮ったイメージが瞬時にファインダーに表示されるので、このタイミングとかピントが合ったかどうかの判断がすぐできてとても便利です。

    　Gerbera with the sun shining through the leaves was photographed from the backlit side, not directly behind, but at a slight angle. The focus was brought to the forefront of the petals where the sun was shining through the trees. The sun was also shining on the petals at the back of the picture, but I thought it would be better to have the shine on the top, so I dimmed the back.

　The depth of field (depth of focus) of a macro lens is about 1 to 2 mm. Even with the recent improvements in AF performance, it is not possible to pinpoint the focus with such precision. In addition, since both the camera and the subject are moving, the area that is in focus is also moving. A tripod can stop the camera movement, but there is no guarantee that the subject will be in focus when you release the shutter, even if you are lucky enough to get the AF to focus on the spot you want because the subject is moving. Moreover, a tripod is not recommended because it greatly restricts the framing of the image due to fine movement of the camera.

　So, what to do is to use MF (manual focus) to focus on the target area to some extent, and then move your body (or hands) back and forth to make fine adjustments. Of course, the camera will never focus exactly on the target area, and the focus surface will move back and forth. I take a series of shots at the same time that the focus surface passes the target area. If one of the shots in the sequence is in focus, it is OK. It is very convenient with mirrorless cameras because the image you took is instantly displayed in the viewfinder, so you can quickly determine the timing and whether the image is in focus or not.

「飛躍」

　今にも飛び立ちそうな種があったので、それを主役にまとめてみました。逆光側から撮ることで綿毛の輝きを強調しています。露出は綿毛の輝きに合わせているので背景は自然と暗く落ちました。

    　There was a seed that was about to take off, so I put it together as the main subject. By shooting from the backlit side, I emphasized the brilliance of the cotton wool. The exposure was adjusted to match the brilliance of the fluff, so the background naturally fell dark.

「羞じらい」

　今日は少し雲があるような天気。アサガオの花びらが面白い形をしていたので、日が雲に陰るタイミングを待って撮った一枚。柔らかい光の中でピンクの暈けを活かすピント位置を選択。アクセントに背景の緑を配置しました。

    The weather was a bit cloudy today. The petals of the morning glory had an interesting shape, so I waited until the sun was behind the clouds to take this shot. I chose a focus position to take advantage of the pink vertigo in the soft light. The green background was placed as an accent.

「秘め事」

　暑い日が続きます。撮影は朝の涼しい時間帯を中心に行うのですが、虫及び日焼け対策から長袖、長ズボンという出で立ち。日差しがあるときは３０分くらいの撮影で汗びっしょりになります。流石に大変なので、いわゆる空調服なるものを買いました。ベストタイプでかっこいいスポーティなウェアもありましたが、撮影で藪のなかに入っていったりするので、丈夫そうな長袖の作業着タイプのウェアを選択しました。快適です。集中力を奪われないのがいい。風量調整ができるタイプなので長く使えそうです。

    The hot days continue. I mainly shoot in the cooler morning hours, but I wear long sleeves and long pants to protect myself from insects and sunburn. When the sun is shining, I am drenched in sweat after about 30 minutes of shooting. It was too much work, so I bought what is called an air-conditioning suit. There were cool sporty vest-type clothes, but since we were going into the bushes for the shoot, we chose long-sleeved work clothes that looked durable. It's comfortable. I like that it doesn't take away my concentration. The air volume can be adjusted, so it will last a long time.

「Swinging」

　昨日とは打って変わっての晴天。雲ひとつないという好天になりました。

　マクロ撮影で一番重要な、うっかりしやすいポイントはシャッタースピードです。手持ちで風景写真を撮るとき、シャッタースピードを「１／焦点距離」秒より早くすると手ブレし難いと言われています。焦点距離50mmのレンズなら1/50秒より早いシャッタースピードを選択する、ということです。しかし、マクロ撮影ではこの論理は使えません。マクロレンズは他のレンズと比べ撮影倍率が高い（大きく写る）ことと、被写体が主に風の影響を受けて細かく動いていて被写体ブレを起こしやすいのがその理由です。

　マクロ撮影のシャッタースピードは、以前にも書きましたが、1/1000秒を目安にします。遅くとも1/500秒より早くします。被写体との距離を決めたら忘れずにシャッタースピードをチェックすることがポイントです。露出モードは絞り優先とし、シャッタースピードが1/1000秒に満たない場合はISO感度を上げます（数字を大きくする）。ISO感度の数字を２倍にするとシャッタースピードも２倍早くなります。ISO感度が200でシャッタースピードが1/250秒なら、ISO感度を800にすればシャッタースピードは1/1000秒になります。であれば、最初からISO感度を高くしておけば良いように思われるかもしれませんが、ISO感度を高くするとノイズが目立つようになる（ノイズが乗ると、特に、暈けた部分が滑らかさが失われザラザラした感じになります）ため、シャッターチャンスに余裕があるときはISO感度を下げます。

　以前はC社のデジタル一眼を使っていましたが、ISO感度は200まで。400がギリギリ許容範囲でした。今は感度が良いと言われるS社のミラーレスを使っていますが、800までが常用で、1600がギリギリ許容範囲という感じです。

 　今日のような晴れの日はシャッタースピードを稼ぎやすくマクロ日和といえましょう。なお、ファインダーを覗きながらISO感度調整ができるとシャッターチャンスを逃すリスクが減ります。

    It was a beautiful day, a complete change from yesterday and a beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky.

　The most important point in macro photography is the shutter speed. When taking hand-held landscape photos, it is said that if the shutter speed is faster than 1/(focal length) second, camera shake is less likely to occur. This means that if you have a 50mm focal length lens, you should choose a shutter speed faster than 1/50 second. However, this logic cannot be used in macro photography. The reason for this is that macro lenses have a higher magnification (larger image) than other lenses and the subject is moving very finely, mainly affected by the wind, which can cause subject blur.

　As I mentioned before, the shutter speed for macro photography should be 1/1000 second. At the very least, it should be faster than 1/500 of a second. The key is to remember to check the shutter speed once you have determined the distance to the subject. If the shutter speed is less than 1/1000th of a second, increase the ISO sensitivity (increase the number). If the ISO sensitivity is 200 and the shutter speed is 1/250 of a second, the shutter speed will be 1/1000 of a second if the ISO sensitivity is 800. If the ISO sensitivity is 200 and the shutter speed is 1/250 sec. When I have a good chance to get a good shot, I lower the ISO sensitivity.

　I used to use a digital SLR camera from Company C. The ISO sensitivity was limited to 200, and 400 was just about acceptable. Now I am using a mirrorless camera from Company S, which is said to have good sensitivity, but I usually use ISO up to 800, and 1600 is just about acceptable.

 　On a sunny day like today, it is easy to increase the shutter speed and it is a good day for macro photography. If you can adjust the ISO sensitivity while looking through the viewfinder, you can reduce the risk of missing your chance.

「君は天然色」

　今日は朝から雨模様。時折大粒の雨が降ってくるような天気。雨雲レーダーを見ながら雨間を探しながらの撮影となりました。ユリズイセンの長い蕊に小さな水玉がたくさん付いていたのでそれを主役にしながら、ユリズイセンの彩度の高い色を活かしながら夏らしさを表現してみました。蕊だけでなく周りの花びらにも水玉がたくさんついているので、ごちゃごちゃしないようピント面が蕊の水玉だけに来るようにアングルを調整しています。

    It's been raining since this morning. The weather was rainy, with occasional heavy showers. I had to check the rain cloud radar and look for a break in the rain. The long stamens of the lily of the valley had many small polka dots on them, so I decided to use them as the main subject of the photo, and tried to express the summer atmosphere by using the highly saturated colors of the lily of the valley. There were many polka dots not only on the stamens but also on the surrounding petals, so I adjusted the angle so that the focus was on the polka dots on the stamens.

「月夜の使者」

- Moonlit Messenger -

　またまたauto WBセンサーの誤作動を利用してまとめてみました。元々は赤紫色の花びらですが色温度が下がって青くなりました。逆光側から撮影していますが、今回は直射光がやや雲に影って光量が落ちた時に誤作動しました。こういう偶然を楽しめるのもミラーレスカメラの特権ですね^^

　I also took advantage of the auto WB sensor malfunction to produce the picture. The petals were originally reddish-purple, but the color temperature was lowered and they turned blue. I took this picture from the backlit side, but this time the sensor malfunctioned when the direct light was slightly overshadowed by clouds and the light level dropped. It' s a privilege of mirrorless cameras to be able to enjoy such coincidences.

「輝き」

- brightness -

　遅れてやってきたグラジオラスが花をつけました。花びらの緩やかなカーブに夏の強い日差しがあたって輝いていました。それを主題にして一枚まとめてみました。ピントは花びらが描くカーブが一番シャープになるところを探って合わせました。

　　The gladiolus, which came late, has started to flower. The gentle curve of the petals shone in the strong summer sunlight. I focused on this curve as the subject of this shot. I tried to find the point where the curve of the petals would be sharpest.
